We are living in a world surrounded by certain products or materials that are for recycling and preservation, but at the same time, for artists it’s a source for an art. Recycling is a process to change waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials. Recyclable materials include glass, paper, metal, plastic, and textiles, consequently, many artists would come into an idea to create artworks out of these raw materials. We might just think that there is no beauty behind those raw things, but amazingly, they have.
Yong HoJi is a Korean artist who recycles thrown away old tires and transforms into an enthralling large sculpture. He used to create animal-like forms like horse, bull, and lion, but has also been fascinated to create a human form. The forms of these figures are stylish and life-like, despite the rough texture of the tires. Upon closer view, these tires heighten the strangeness of these monstrous figures.
