A samurai is a term used in Japan to describe warriors with military nobility. Samurai warriors described themselves as followers of “The Way of the Warrior” and were bound by a code of honor to which they are expected to set an example for those below them. The samurai are among the most popular warriors of all time which resulted for them to frequently appear in Japanese comics (manga) and animation (anime). Most common of these are historical works wherein the protagonist is either a samurai or former samurai (or another rank/position) who possesses considerable martial skill. These literatures, however, have not restricted the samurai-like characters to historical settings but to a number of works set in the modern age, and even the future, include characters who live, train and fight like samurai as well.
