Panning is a technique in photography that is used to capture a moving object in action. The subject of the photo is clearly caught on camera; however, the rest remains a blur in the background. Panning suggests speed and velocity to an image. To date, more and more people are into enhancing their panning skills.

Below are 40 Examples of Panning Shots in Photography that was shot by skilled and aspiring photographers as they explore and use the panning technique. These photos were mostly taken with the use of a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera. Feel free to browse through these images and be motivated!

  1. Wow! That was an amazing compilation.
Some of them were image taken from Asia. Overload. lol
By the way, the 4th last image was a guy riding a bike with a white helmet. Can anyone tell me what is it’s model? I kinda like it.

  2. Hey nice collection of photos here. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  3. Great gallery!

    Can I share mine?

Some technical information about panning. Panning works the best for me with my 10mm when I’m around a shutterspeed of 1/15 (put the camera on shutterspeed mode, so it will determine the diafragma for you). Ofcourse it depends on how fast the object you want to pan moves. The more you do it, the more you’ll get keepers.

  4. Great photographs and another great post from the author : Ronald Bien… a Graphic Designer from Philippines. He launches Naldz Graphics to help the Design Community in providing quality design resources and tutorials. Lots of great things here at NaldzGraphics… and thanks again to Brukhar at Presidia Creative for sending me this fairly new, I think, blogsite !!

  5. Wow nice photographs… really nice… thanks for sharing…

  6. amazing photography but i feel there is some manipulations or may be there is camera quality.

  7. Awesome collection, I love action photographs, especially when they can capture some of the kinetic energy that was flowing at the moment the photo was taken. Thanks for putting this together!

  8. Very few of these are legitimate pans. The rest are Photoshop effects, many clumsily applied. The easy tipoff is when the motion blur goes both ways. Or the wrong way.

  9. Awesome pictures, but here’s my question: how do you take a panning shot? Is it wide aperture, fast shutter speed? I’ve never been able to take one.

  10. when will i get my 50D? I want to have an experiment on those kind of shots

  11. Wow, it must take incredible skill to take these shots because whenever I see others taking them they don’t come out anywhere near this in clarity!

  12. wow. you could have broken up the 40 with a bit more variation. quite alot of the same type of shot?

  13. gee, thanks for not telling people how it was done. seems a tripod was in use for many f the expert shots. whats the usual shutter speed and is it just a matter of following the action please xplain how its done and why no night shots?

  14. Its very difficult task for beginer photographer, Its require more experience. Really nice photography

  15. Great collection!
May anyone share some tutorials? I don’t know how can I do it!

  16. Okay, I have to admit, those were really cool. I love the birds especially, but seeing the people seemingly standing still while the world moves on,… very neat.

  17. Thank you for featuring my skate boarder photo (3rd photo of the set), I appreciate it!

  18. Very nice, i always wondered how this was done, great pictures will have to save.
